Loads. This week I will visit fire stations, schools, day nurseries, youth charities, budget meetings … I will go to the homes of my residents (when invited) to discuss individual issues that they need resolved … the list is endless. Above all, I will respond to A LOT of letters.
A whole range of things. I attend meetings – lots and lots of meetings – both at County Hall and locally. I meet with individual people who need a bit of help and try to find a way of helping them. I’m spending a lot of time at the moment on trying to get the HS2 proposals changed – we had another Action Group meeting yesterday, and I met with our MP and the Secretary of State for Transport last week. There’s always lots of reading to do – reports and briefings. And I spent an hour this morning in our Contact Centre at County Hall, finding out about the work of the team that answer all the phone calls to the County Council – very impressive. This evening, I’m going out knocking on doors inviting people to sign a petition against HS2, and then I’m helping to organise an annual dinner for the local Conservatives. I do get to have some fun too, and it’s great to meet so many people in the course of what I do.

As councillor you have many roles:
sounding board and providing help to residents on a day to day basis
as an opposition – challenging and questioning the Council
as member of council committees – helping to question and scrutinise the administration.
– helping to improve policies
As County Councillor – ambassador for Buckinghamshire and its residents on outside bodies and events.
