This is difficult as money is in short supply. We need to work with the councils, town and parish plus the local charities, by doing this we understand what the demand is in your area what your needs are. This is called locality working which central government is asking us to do.

We live in a county where there are some very wealthy areas, and also some areas that are very deprived. That makes the contrast between the two very stark, and it’s one that Councillors are anxious to do something about. One of the best things we can do is to provide a really good education, and to encourage young people to aim high and achieve well. I absolutely understand that, if you live in a deprived area, this is likely to be more difficult, and that is why we try to focus additional support on schools in these areas, and even on individual pupils. We also need to encourage the community to look for ways they can help themselves to improve the area they live in. It shouldn’t all be down to councils and public organisations – people need to find ways of helping their own communities too. After all, they know their communities best. It takes a long time to improve things in a deprived area, but we have made a difference already in some parts of Buckinghamshire.

    Hi Jack

We need ensure that ALL children in Buckinghamshire achieve to their potential. Children in deprived areas have particualr problems and needs that we need to make sure are met.

How? By first finding out and listening to the families in these areas and then striving to help. The County has a number of programmes and policies but in my view needs to be doing much more to help children in deprived areas.
