I’m afraid not! I was a star at French, but hopeless at art, and my PE teacher despaired of ever getting me to put in any effort. But when my own children were at school, I kept telling them that they must always do their very best – a bit hypocritical perhaps, but an important message.
Being honest there always subjects we enjoy and those we enjoy less. However as exams approach then I did try hard in all my lessons as I wanted to get the best grade I could.
I also found that the more effort I put in to a subject, by reading around it and finding out more, the more interesting it became and the more enjoyable it became.
I finished my A-Levels in 1998, and I think I can say with some confidence that I didn’t try the hardest in my lessons. I think I was the pupil that teachers loved to hate. I talked too much and conncentrated too little…in hindsight, I wish I had tried harder and done a little bit better, but I enjoyed my time and made a great group of friends that I am still in touch with.
Do I have to be honest…… Yest honesty is the best policy. I was very cheeky at school, but I did really enjoy woodwork, metal work and English, but I am no good at spelling….R
